An extraordinary experience almost nobody knew about
Ice climbing in Davos is one of winter's most spectacular experiences: frozen waterfalls, dramatic alpine walls, and guided ascents for adventurous travellers. But it is also one of the hardest products to sell. The season is short, the audience is narrow, and most travellers have never considered that ice climbing is something they could try on holiday.
The business had the guides, the equipment and the routes. What it did not have was a predictable way to fill its season.
A niche sport with a short window
Three problems, the same ones we see across most tour and activity businesses, sharpened by the niche:
- A tiny aware audience: almost nobody searches for ice climbing unprompted. Demand had to be created, not just captured.
- A short selling season: every empty week was revenue gone forever. There was no time for slow organic growth.
- No social presence: the most visual adventure product imaginable had almost no presence where adventure travellers get inspired.
Create the demand, then capture it
With a short season and low awareness, the strategy was paid-first and visual-first:
- Targeted ads aimed precisely at adventure travellers: interest and intent targeting on Meta for inspiration, Google for the few high-intent searches that existed.
- Complete social media management: a full content engine of Reels and posts showing real climbs, real guides and real guests, turning the sport's visual drama into daily demand.
- Frictionless enquiries: ad and social traffic flowed into fast-response inquiry handling, because a short season forgives no slow replies.
A season-long demand machine
Ad campaigns launched before the season to build a pipeline of interested travellers, then shifted to conversion as the ice formed. Social content ran daily through the season: climb footage, guide introductions, guest reactions, conditions updates. Every piece of content answered the unspoken question: could I actually do this?
Targeting was refined weekly from booking data, doubling down on the audiences and creatives that produced real reservations.
980 bookings in one season
Generated in a single ice climbing season through targeted ads and fully managed social media. Figure as reported by the client.
What changed:
- Demand created from near zero: a sport almost nobody searches for filled its season through inspiration-led advertising.
- Social media as a booking channel: daily content turned followers into a pipeline, not just an audience.
- Every week monetized: the short season sold through instead of leaving empty weeks behind.
We report the booking figure exactly as the client reported it. No revenue totals or conversion rates have been added.
The takeaway
Niche adventure products don't need mass awareness. They need precisely targeted ads and relentless visual proof, delivered before and during a short season.
